Warriner School, Bloxham put up a brave show before bowing out of the ESFA Heinz Ketchup Under 14 Cup 2-1 against Ernest Bevin, Tooting in the sixth round.

Warriner, Oxon's final survivors in the competition, took the lead in Thursday's last-32 tie at Roehampton when Matthew Carter drilled home a shot at the far post from a corner.

And the Bloxham lads almost went further ahead when David Addison volleyed another chance inches over the angle of post and upright.

But Ernest Bevin, last year's finalists whose old boys include Arsenal's rising star Ashley Cole, then took charge.

However, they had fortune on their side when they equalised with a shot which took a deflection, giving keeper Matthew Dixon no chance.

Warriner remained under the cosh in the second half and it took some fine saves from Dixon and the woodwork to deny Ernest Bevin before they took the lead with a sparkling solo effort.

Even then, Guy Andrews almost hauled Warriner level with a rasping drive which smacked against the bar, but it wasn't to be.
