A 'mean' plan to leave out facilities for the disabled at an enlarged sports centre has been blocked.
The move would have reduced the cost of the £1.5m scheme, which will include swimming pool and health and fitness centre, by £220,000. The new facilities will be included in an extension to Thame's sports and arts centre.
South Oxfordshire District Council community services chairman Cllr Carole Heath-Whyte suggested the cuts to reduce the amount the project will need from the authority's community trust fund.
But opposition, led by Thame member Cllr Mary Stiles, persuaded members to block this proposal.
She said: "
"To cut out part of the fitness suite accessible to disabled people is really mean."
