Andrew Elias, from Frilford Heath, helped the Wales boys team to their first-ever victory over Ireland in the Cardigan Cup

Elis played a full part in Wales's win at the Rosslare GC in County Wexford.

In his two singles matches, he won 3 and 2 against Eoin Arthurs and then triumphed one up against the new Irish whizzkid, 14-year-old Cian McNamara, who plays off one.

The game with McNamara was particularly daunting as a large crowd followed the boys in a game which ebbed and flowed.

In the foursomes, Elias, 17, played with Rhys Davies and halved with their Irish counterparts.

Following his successful debut, he now hopes to be called up for forthcoming match in Poland.

Meantime, Elias captained the Berks, Bucks & Oxon junior team to victory over Hants and Wilts at Hartley Wintney.

*David Lane had to fight off the challenge from Huntercombe's Mark Dixon before winning the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Seniors Championship for the fourth year at Ellesborough.

The Goring & Streetley player defied tricky conditions on the first day to shoot a two-round total of 149 for a three-shot victory.

Dixon finished second after two rounds of 76 and was three shots clear of third-placed Rod Crisp (Ellesborough).

Oxford City's Peter Matthews finished third in the handicap event. Playing off nine, he had a nett total of 145.
