LOGISTICS firm Unipart has bought a railway supply company which is based in Crewe and employs 320 people.

Unipart, based in Cowley, paid an undisclosed sum for National Railway Supplies (NRS) which services, repairs, and distributes signaling and telecom equipment for the Rail industry.

Unipart backed a management buyout team at NRS in 1997 and acquired a minority shareholding in the newly privatised company.

Now it has bought 100 per cent of the firm, which has sites in York and Brighton as well as in Crewe.

NRS operates 150 remote warehousing sites and runs the stores for customers which include: Westinghouse, Balfour Beatty, and AMEC.
