Kennington cricket club has been boosted in its drive for funds to pay for a new scorebox.

The Vale of White Horse District Council's Grants committee has agreed to contribute £1,000 towards the £3,162 cost of the scheme. Kennington Parish Council has awarded the club £300 and the club is waiting to hear from the lottery Awards for All scheme if a grant application to that has been successful.

Kennington cricket club is 50 years old. For more than 20 years it has been involved in the coaching and development of cricket for young people in the village.

There are weekly coaching sessions for all age groups from eight to 16 and about 80 children regularly attend the sessions. The club has 80 members and runs six teams for adults and youngsters.
