A £197,000 project has been launched to help Oxfordshire women from ethnic minorities to develop their skills and find employment.

The Home Office cash was granted to the Oxford Women's Training Scheme, which has set up the Unity group, based at the East Oxford Education Complex in Union Street.

Project manager Pearline Blackstock said: "There are cultural needs that are not always met in Oxfordshire. There is also discrimination that exists as a barrier to employment and opportunities.

"Women still need confidence-building. We want to identify their needs and help them build their futures."

A special Unity launch party was held at Cowley Parish Hall, in Between Towns Road. It was opened by Pauline Blackstock's daughter, Remi Blackstock. To find out more, call 01865 722999.
