A farmer has praised firefighters who stopped a mobile home fire from spreading to nearby farm buildings.

Fire crews were called out to the fire at Sandfields Farm, Over Norton, near Chipping Norton, at 2.38am on Saturday and remained at the scene for about four hours.

The mobile home of farm worker Jonathan Adams, who was out visiting a friend, was completely destroyed as were two cars.

Station officer Bob Burrell, who was in charge of the operation, said: "The damage to it was so severe on our arrival that we didn't recognise it as a mobile home."

He said the crews' efforts were "seriously compromised" by a gas cylinder that was piped into the mobile home. "It had the potential to explode," he said.

Farm buildings containing farm vehicles, building materials and wood shavings were damaged by heat, but the fire service managed to prevent the fire fromspreading.

Farmer David Pearman said: "I would like to praise them very much indeed. They were absolutely wonderful to contain it."
