Fans of Oxford band Radiohead queued around the block when extra tickets went on sale for their homecoming gig.

Forty-thousand tickets for the July 7 concert in South Park, Headington Hill - costing £27.50 each - were sold within a week earlier this year.

Keith Washington, 46, who queued from 7am to get a ticket for his son's birthday, and Kate Caldwell, 20

Nick Moorbath, manager of the Zodiac Club in Cowley Road, last week revealed that 2,000 more tickets would be on sale on Saturday between noon and 6pm. As a result, fans lined up around the block despite the threat of heavy showers and 1,500 were soon sold. The remaining 500 are expected to be snapped up in the next couple of days.

American artist Beck and Wheatley band Supergrass are also on the bill, while local acts - The Rock of Travolta and Hester Thrale - have also been added to the line-up after being chosen by Radiohead from hundreds of hopefuls.

Mr Moorbath said the concert's capacity had been increased, with the extra tickets being aimed specifically at local fans.

Fans had to turn up in person and were limited to four tickets each.
