Abingdon juniors set seven new club records when they competed in the second round of the Topsport Oxfordshire Track and Field League at Horspath.

Some 52 club members competed and came away with a total of 23 personal bests.

George Wood lowered the club record he had set a few days earlier to 2.33.1 (grade three) for his 800m and David Banks (under 13) set a new mark of 29.6 (grade four) for the 200m.

Thomas Charleston hopped, skipped and jumped to a new record of 9.27m in the under 15 triple jump, while in the under 17 event, Warren Higgins bettered his club record in the discus by almost four metres with 28.72m, just short of a national grade four.

Brendan Fisher achieved a grade three for his 23.8secs run in the under 17s' 200m and set a new club record in the process. This followed his grade two run in the schools championships' 400m in a time of 52.5.

Meanwhile, Abingdon girls managed one new record with Steffi Bazylkiewicz (under 15) breaking the 200m club mark with a run of 27.9 (grade four).

More records were broken at the Oxford City Five-Star Ten-Step meeting at Horspath on Sunday.

Having lost her 100m record a few weeks ago, Bazylkiewicz followed up Wednesday's record-breaking run with a 13.4 sec 100m run and in doing so achieved a grade three standard.

She also managed a 13.2 for her 75m hurdles and a new personal best in the high jump of 1.38. She came second in the overall competition for her age group.

James Charleston, competing in the under 11 category, broke two club records - in the 800m with a time of 2.48.4, and in the long jump he broke his own record with a leap of 3.59m. He also managed 11.00 secs in the 55m hurdles.

His brother Thomas ran 13.7 in the under 15 100m, 16.7 in the 80m hurdles and leapt 3.67m in the long jump.

The Hampsons were out again with Ruth (under 15) setting a pb of 28.6 in the 200m, leaping 4.26m in the long jump and throwing the discus 18.20m.

Her sister Beth (under 13) broke the club record with 30.3 for the 200m, a pb of 2.43.3 in the 800m, and jumped 3.80m in the long jump.
