David Chandler had a row with his wife and gave her a bloody nose, magistrates were told.
At Didcot Court, Helen Waite, prosecuting, said Chandler returned home at lunch-time on April 30 having had too much to drink.
"An argument started which got out of hand when Chandler hit his wife and she received a bloody nose," Miss Waite said.
Chandler told police he had drunk between eight and ten pints of lager.
Chandler, 36, of Oldcroft Close, Kingston Blount, agreed to be bound over in the sum of £150 to keep the peace for 12 months. His wife had said she did not wish to press a charge of assault.
The court heard that the couple wanted to resume their relationship.
A charge of assault was withdrawn.
