Volunteers are needed to help set up a new community mini bus service.

People in Faringdon are being encouraged to support the proposed £30,000 service for the town.

The scheme, which is being backed by the Oxfordshire Rural Community Council and the Vale Housing Association, is designed to help people travel around the town.

Potential passengers are also being asked to come forward with suggestions for routes and timetables.

Alison Jennings, communications and research manager for the Vale Housing Association, said: "Research with residents revealed a real need for a run-around local bus service in Faringdon. Many people are reliant on local taxis to make short journeys to the doctors or shops.

"Parents have difficulty getting their kids to school if they have a large family attending different schools and the school-run causes traffic congestions in the town."

Caroline Bellanger, rural transport project worker at the community council said: "The proposal for the project is now ready to present to a wider audience. We are in the final stages of securing funding, but we need local support and suggestions."

Anyone in Faringdon with suggestions - or able to volunteer in the running of the project - are invited to join a meeting at Faringdon Community College's Small Hall, at 7.30pm tomorrow.
