A man brandishing an axe attacked a car containing five people in Bicester.
The man approached a Ford Escort parked outside McCall's store in Kingsclere Road from the direction of Leach Road.
Police spokesman David Campbell said: "He attacked the vehicle with an axe, smashing the front windscreen, narrowly missing the driver's head. The five occupants got out of the car and the man ran off with the axe." No-one was hurt in the incident early on Sunday and the axe was found the following day.
The people in the car have not been named.
The attacker is described as white, aged about 30, of medium build with dark hair, big dark eyebrows and a big nose. Anyone with information should contact Pc Philip Gurton at Bicester police station on 01869 364520 or Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
