Mercedes-Benz is bringing a burning passion to this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 6 to 8.

This year marks the centenary of the name Mercedes and to celebrate, one of the greatest historic collections of Mercedes-Benz cars will be honoured as the featured marque.

Throughout this year Mercedes-Benz is involved in a series of events called The Story of Passion and Goodwood will see the biggest and most important collection of historic Mercedes racing cars ever displayed in Britain. More than 40 will be on show.

Karl Benz invented the world's first car powered by an internal combustion engine as far back as 1886, beating Gottlieb Daimler by a mere six months. The two engineering geniuses never met, but their companies merged in 1926 to form Daimler-Benz.

It is exactly 100 years ago that the name Mercedes, the daughter of an Austrian diplomat and keen amateur racing driver, first appeared on cars built by the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft.
