The Spring 2001 tour of Ricochet, the award-winning contemporary dance company, will conclude at the Oxford Playhouse on June 22, writes Chris Gray.

In their first visit to the Oxford Playhouse, Ricochet's five dancers promise to perform high-quality, bold and accessible modern dance in the form of a double-bill, The Enigma of Sin and Cut.

The Enigma of Sin, part of new work commissioned from the choreographer and director Gary Carter, is described as a witty and imaginative take on the fall from grace of the Archangel Lucifer.

The work also has a specially commissioned score composed by the unconventional cellist Kathryn Locke.

The Enigma of Sin will be performed alongside Cut, Russell Maliphant's critically acclaimed production for Ricochet, first presented in the spring of last year. With beautiful and atmospheric lighting created by Michael Hulls and commissioned music from the accomplished Matteo Fargion, Cut brings together some of the classiest talent in British dance.

Unique in the UK as a dancer-led ensemble and acclaimed for inspired commissions by outstanding choreographers, Ricochet Dance Company is recognised for its bold, varied and immensely accessible work.

In 1997 the company was awarded the Time Out Award for Dance for "consistently inventive creativity".

The company also holds prizes from the Suzanne Dellal Choreographic Competition in Israel and the prestigious Recontres Choregraphiques Internationales de Bagnolet.
