Oxfordshire opened their account in the Home Counties League with a convincing 138-110 victory over Sussex at Pope's Mead.

Oxon, who had crashed to a 144-113 defeat against Surrey in their opening clash, bounced back in great style to win on four of the six rinks.

Alan Ley's side returned the most impressive success with a 34-12 triumph.

Ryan Buckett's quartet were also in sparkling form as they ran out 31-17 winners.

Les Campion saw his side crash to a 26-12 defeat on rink five, but the Banbury Central bowler had the consolation of being awarded his 50-game badge after the match.

Robert Mackie also suffered a reverse as his side went down 23-18.

Playing, for the most part, in heavy rain on a difficult green in the village of Panteg, Oxon had just one winning rink as skip Henry Franklin and his side Jim Goatham, Cyril Hathaway and Stuart Barton triumphed 17-12.

In the third of OBA president Alan Braden's games, a joint team involving Oxfordshire WBA and representatives of the ladies' associations beat hosts Witney Town 148-75.

Presentations were made to the Witney captain Ray Smith and to the top winning and losing rink.
