With six or seven meetings to go, Keith 'Hurricane' Higgs is in contention for runner-up in the Classic Racing Club championship.

James Clark, of Cheltenham has already won the title, but Higgs of Chilton, near Didcot, is second with Dave Johnson of Colchester third. Their next clash will be at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire, on September 15 and 16.

Keith HiggsLast weekend, the HH Racing team was performing at the Silverstone Historic Festival of Cars and Motorcycles.

Higgs, 43, whose day job is a software project manager, bought his 170mph, 130 horsepower post-classic Peckett and McNab Kawasaki four years ago. He began racing on a 350cc Yamaha in 1983 and has enjoyed considerable success over the years.

Higgs is supported by an able pit team including his 13-year-old son Tim, George Downham of Didcot - who plans to race next season - Martin New of Chilton, and Keith's partner, Helen Mott, who looks after their trackside catering.

Higgs says it costs him £5,000-a-year to compete, although he gets backing from Rock Oil, MA Nicholls, of Didcot, and Interactive Recruitment.
