Four Oxfordshire clubs - Gosford All Blacks, Littlemore, Oxford Harlequins and Wheatley - have joined forces to form a new club for juniors called the Oxford Barbarians.

The four will pool their junior players and coaches to provide under 13 to under 17 sides for both girls and boys.

Chairman of the partnership's management committee, Keith Whiter of Littlemore, said: "We will be able to provide a great environment for nurturing the talented players, as well as quality coaching and playing opportunities for those new to the game.

"We are particularly excited about forming a girls playing side, and have already been approached by a local upper school to work with them in promoting girls' rugby."

Fixtures secretary, Mark Cartwright (Oxford Harlequins) has lined up fixtures, the first being against Saracens on September 23.

All players will train together at Oxford Harlequins, but will play their home matches at each of the partnership grounds in rotation.

Players will retain their membership of their home club, but will play in a new strip of Oxford blue and orange.

The Barbarians are appealing for sponsorship from local businesses to fund the purchase of the new kit.

New players between the ages of 12 and 17 are welcome to go along on Sunday mornings between 10.30 and 12.00 at the Oxford Harlequins Ground, Marston Ferry for training.
