A pre-school toddlers group is looking for new premises after the ceiling of their old playroom collapsed.

The Little Angels of St John's Mums and Tots meet for two hours on Tuesday afternoons and need a room with toilets, and tea and coffee making facilities.

The group was set up two years ago for pre-school children of St John's RC Primary School on Cherwell Heights, Banbury.

Secretary Jayne Bell said: "We have 15 children, aged up to five, and 11 mothers who attend regularly. It is an important group and is supported by Father Bede of St John's Church, who let us use St John's House in St John's Road."

She said: "In July, after a session of morris dancing upstairs, the ceiling of our room caved in. Fr Bede had the building inspected and it was declared unsafe."

Since then the group has met in the community centre beneath St John's Church.

But Mrs Bell said: "Numbers have dwindled so I did a survey and found the centre is not popular. There is no natural light and it is where coffins were stored. Many mothers do not like it."

She has searched for a suitable room - about 400 sq ft - without success.

She said: "We have play equipment that we need to keep in the room or in a shed nearby."

The group has just been awarded a social services grant of £300 for new play equipment but has banked the money until it finds a home.

Mrs Bell, who can be contacted on 01295 257204, said: "We would prefer somewhere to the south of the town, but anywhere would be nice."
