A supermarket shopper got a surprise when he went to pick a trolley.

The trolley was lined with tin foil and contained burnt coals and a note, made out of newspaper cuttings, was pinned to the handle.

The trolley BBQThe note read: "Thank you! Wonderful barbecue! As requested we have returned the trolley."

David McClain spotted the trolley at Tesco, Pingle Drive, Bicester. He said: "It was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. I decided that I would leave it for more people to find and see if they found it as amusing."

The front panel, which is used to stack trolleys, had been pushed inwards and propped up to allow food to be cooked on it.

A spokesman for Tesco said: "It's not the first time a trolley has been used for a barbecue, but it is the first time one has been brought back."

The trolley has been cleaned and is now back in service.
