Screens covering the windows at Oxford's BMW plant will be dropped today to allow the public see the new Mini on the production line.
The remodelling of the classic 1960s car has captured the public's imagination, with many dealers reporting several months of waiting lists before buyers can get their hands on the Mini.
Production of the car is to be increased shortly after the European sales launch on September 7.
Rainer Bickmann and Steve MannersRainer Bickmann, BMW's assembly director - pictured left with associate Steve Manners - said: "The plant is on schedule to meet its production target for 2001 and we are currently producing 200 cars a day.
"With the introduction of a second shift we will be able to increase that figure to 500 vehicles per day.
"Two shifts also mean that there will be production for most of the day and with the new panoramic windows open, the public will be able to gat a good view of Mini production."
