NORTH Oxford are the Ladies Division 1 champions after beating Abingdon 6-3 in their final game of the Wilson Inter-Club League season.

Knowing that victory would give them the title, North cruised to what was in the end a comfortable victory, with only Abingdon's first pair of Lucy Collinson and Jenny Tattersall putting up any resistance.

Collinson and Tattersall won all three of their rubbers, but all the other matches were one-sided affairs with straight set victories for all three North pairs of Gina Liverton and Mary Joyner, Maddie Mitchell and Helen Turner, as well as captain Sue Duff and Julia Brown.

Wychwood have been promoted from Men's Division 5 by the narrowest of margins.

The beat Woodstock C 5-4 in their final game, to tie with Brackley and Oxford Sports C on ten points. But with a rubber count of 47-25, Wychwood edged out Brackley (46-26) into third, and pushed Sports (42-29) into fourth.

Dave Hillyard and Pat Edgington were Wychwood's star men, winning all three rubbers, while Andy Muddle and David Hughes picked up an important two rubbers at second pair.
