Tracking devices have helped Thames Valley Police achieve a 48 per cent increase in the number of stolen cars recovered by officers.
Between August last year and July this year, 37 cars and items of plant machinery were traced, resulting in nine arrests. In the previous 12 months, 25 vehicles were recovered, and one person was arrested.
At the end of last year, Thames Valley Police teamed up with security firm TRACKER Network UK. Police cars were fitted with tracking units which can pick up signals from stolen cars fitted with surveillance devices.
Insp Dave Hartin, head of traffic intelligence and operations, said: "We are determined to use every means possible to prevent car crime."
