Canadian aluminium group Alcan, which has a research and development laboratory in Banbury, is re-organising its business with new top management.

The multinational will have six divisions -- primary metal; bauxite, alumina and speciality chemicals; engineered products; rolled products, Americas and Asia; rolled products, Europe; and Alcan packaging.

The company will be managed from the head office in Montreal by executives Richard Evans, Brian Sturgell and Travis Engen.

Laboratory director Peter Band said that the 100 scientists employed in Banbury, who research and develop the fabrication end of the business, would be unaffected by the reorganisation.

He said: "This is a robust operation that takes full advantage of the university system in Oxfordshire."

Other Alcan research and development laboratories are in Neuhausen, Switzerland, and in Kingston and Arvida, both in Canada.
