A Didcot couple had a surprise start to the New Year when their cat was returned to them -- nearly a year after he went missing.

Monty, 13, was discovered by a Kidlington family, who took him to Parkwood Veterinary Group, Hensington Road, Woodstock, more than 22 miles from his home in Didcot. He was reunited with his owners, Frank and Alice Asbury, of Lydalls Road, Didcot, thanks to a microchip inserted under his skin.

Vets inject a microchip, which contains an identification number, into the scruff of an animal's neck. Details about the pet are held on an RSPCA database.

Mrs Asbury, pictured above with Monty, said: "We are absolutely over the moon to have him back."
