Oxford Rugby Club's junior section was abuzz with excitement on Sunday when a BBC TV crew arrived at the ground.

Interest was centred around the club's Under 14 team home match with Wallingford and one player in particular.

Dominic Shaw, the team's fly half and a pupil at Magdalen College School, is the subject of a BBC TV three-part documentary called 'Teen Species'.

This deals with teenagers from different walks of life going through adolescence and is due to be televised this summer.

The TV crews have been filming Shaw at various intervals during the past two years. He is one of three boys covered by the programme, the other two are from California and New York.

Shaw's prowess at rugby, and his inclusion in the Oxfordshire Under 14 squad, was an opportunity too good to miss for the programme-makers, who strapped a camera to the ball, setting up scrums, line-outs and mock play between Oxford and Wallingford.

Shaw duly obliged the cameras with a try and two conversions as Oxford went on to win 39-0.

Anybody who has played rugby for Oxford Vikings - the club's 3rd XV - is invited to lunch at the Southern Bypass Ground, before the club's Southern Counties North home match with Beaconsfield this Saturday.

The reunion is the brainchild of Roger Whitfield, former Oxford RFC chairman.

It is being held to celebrate the elevation of a former Viking Mike Florey to the post of club president this season.

A course for all midi and mini-rugby coaches is being held at Oxford RFC's Southern Bypass ground this Saturday (10am-12).

It is being run by the Oxfordshire and Bucks RFU Southern Region Coaching, who are also organising a development course at Gosford All Blacks on Monday February 4 (7-9pm).

Those interested in attending either of these courses should contact either Richard Cosier (tel 01865 873502) or Nigel Mellor (tel 01296 583686).
