Residents have complained to councillors and police that a house on an estate in Bicester is being used for prostitution.

They claim to have seen up to two dozen men going into the house, in Aspen Close, on the Southwold housing estate, on one day and night, leaving cars parked outside.

Neighbours' complaints were taken up with Bicester Town Council by Southwold Community Association.

Derek Colden, association chairman, said: "The house was advertised as being a massage parlour, but residents believe it was being used as a 'red light' house."

Town councillor Carol Steward said: "I understand the landlord, who did not know what was going on, has given his tenant notice to quit by the end of this month.

"I think residents are concerned about the activities at the house because there are a lot of children on the estate."

Town council leader and district councillor Norman Bolster said the town council had passed the complaints to Cherwell District Council.

He added: "It is unsavoury for residents."

Cherwell's environmental health manager, Grahame Helm, confirmed they were making inquiries.

Mr Helm added: "We have no proof the house is being used for those purposes.

"We can take action if there is a noise problem, such as car doors banging, and general anti-social behaviour."

Carole Haveron, of Bicester police, said: "We usually pay a visit to the lady of any house concerned. If this does not work we send letters to the owners of cars visiting the house. This usually seems to work."
