An Oxford landlord has been given the go-ahead to open a new quiet Oxford city centre pub.

Noel Reilly, 56, the former landlord of the Jude The Obscure pub in Walton Street, is fronting plans for the new venture in Friar's Entry, off Magdalen Street.

Mr Reilly left the Jude The Obscure pub last August when his tenancy with Morrells of Oxford ended.

He and Seighford Investment Company Ltd are to revive the spirit of the Walton Street pub, where poetry readings were held, in the new hostelry called Far From The Madding Crowd, which will open in the spring.

On Tuesday, at the central area committee, city councillors gave the scheme planning permission. A liquor licence has also been granted.
