Giles Sports Witney Boys League

The Witney and District Under 13 representative team started the annual SwanRay Inter-League competition with a 16-2 stroll past Cirencester Youth League at Bibury FC.

On a heavy pitch, debutant Chris Betreen (Chesterton Juniors) the star of the show with five goals.

Michael Wharton (Carterton Rangers) opened the scoring, and Tom Roberts (Bicester Town Colts) made it 2-0.

Joe Beahan (Chesterton Juniors) hit No 3, before Bradley Bryant (Carterton Rangers), Betreen, Roberts and Beahan made it 7-0 after just 29 minutes.

Dan Huntley (Bicester Town Colts) grabbed the eighth, before Betreen completed the first-half scoring making it 9-0 at the break.

Cirencester netted from the penalty spot at the start of the second period after Lee Brooker (Banbury United) handled.

But Ethan Penney (Bicester Town Colts) made it 10-1, before going on to score a late hat-trick.

Betreen added three more to his tally, and Bryant's strike made it 16-2 after Cirencester scored a late consolation.

The Under 12 team played the Cirencester & District Boys League at Bibury FC.

Cirencester scored twice in the last ten minutes of the half, and although Witney came back into the game half way through the second period when Grendon Rangers debutant Ian McCrorie fired home from the edge of the box.

But Cirencester immediately re-established their two-goal cushion, and despite Collins pulling one back, Cirencester scored a fourth to make the game safe.

The Under 10 representative team finished runners-up in their inter-league tournament.

Witney opened with a 3-2 win over Oxford. Jack Taylor (Hook Norton) put them in front with an early double.

And after Oxford had hit back, Frank Harrison (Chesterton) scored a final individual goal to secure victory.

Cheltenham opened the scoring in the next game, but Witney bounced back through Thomas Ashworth (Bicester).

Cheltenham restored their lead in the second-half and it needed a late goal from Kyle Field (Easington) to secure a draw.

Witney went close in the dying moments, Taylor and Field both had shots that hit the post.

In their final game, Witney only needed to pick up a point to win the tournament against Swindon.

Swindon opened the scoring in the first half, and although Witney rallied with Taylor having two half chances, they could not find an equaliser.

In league action, Chesterton went top of the Under 14 B League after a 12-1 drubbing of Ducklington, who had not conceded more than two goals in any match before this clash.

Matty Horle and Darren Davies led the way with four-timers, with Mark Bartrum bagging a hat-trick.

Colin Wilton scored the other as Chesterton went top of the table.

In the Under 16s, Carterton Rangers got the New Year off to a great start, recording a 7-1 home victory against local rivals Witney Vikings.

Kev Trethowan (2), Joel King (2), Tom Fletcher (2) Ben Acock were on target.

Benji Sundblad and Ian Sparkes scored four goals each as Carterton Rangers maintained their Under 13 title challenge with a 14-2 victory at home to Moretonville Juniors.

Rangers' other goals came from Luke Morris (2), Bradley Bryant (2), Nathan Harris and James Dover.
