A working Oxfordshire quarry has been chosen as the dramatic setting for a night-time spectacular which will recreate the science fiction world of the Dr Who era.

Up to 1,200 people will be able to step into the world of sci-fi television when Rogers Garden Stone Quarry, near Faringdon, is transformed with optical illusions and eerie sound effects.

Jon Rogers and Rory Hamilton, who both teach at London's Royal College of Art, have spent 15 months working on the art project.

Mr Rogers, whose father owns the quarry, said: "Computer animated images will be projected around the quarry to give people the feeling that they are in the middle of an alien world."

Members of the former BBC Radiophonic Workshop, who created soundtracks for Dr Who and The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, will be helping with an original score for the event.

The spectacular will take place on three nights from Wednesday, March 20, until Friday, March 22, between 7pm and 9pm.

Tickets for the free event are available by calling The Oxford Playhouse Box Office on 01865 305305.
