The historic clock tower building at the Mini car plant in Cowley is being demolished after more than 70 years as a city landmark.
The building, which dates from the late 1920s, formed part of the Pressed Steel offices alongside the main car plant.
BMW says the building, which is not listed, is being knocked down as part of general site clearance.
Trevor Williams, chairman of the Cowley Local History Society, said: "It is a great shame -- another Cowley landmark is being destroyed.
"The offices were used by the directors and were very plush with oak panelling. There are not many art deco design buildings like that left here any more."
BMW spokesman Angela Wigley said: "We are taking down that particular building as part of our ongoing redevelopment. We will not be building another clock tower in its place."
