Allison Hirst, from Headington Roadrunners, set a new personal best of 35mins 38secs as she won the Vet 35 race at the Bourton 10k.

Her effort was good enough for second place overall behind Bideford's Vicky Pincombe, who broke the course record in 34.05.

In the men's race, Carterton-based Mark Flint, running for Birchfield Harriers, was involved a tense struggle for supremacy with eventual winner Andrew Gardiner, of Stroud, who clocked 30.28.

Flint was also outstripped by Richard Szade, of Newport Harriers, who ran 30.32, and eventually came home in third place, crossing the line in 30.36.

Of the other local runners, Banbury's Simon Pritchard was the first Oxfordshire runner home in 33.08 for 15th place.

He was followed closely by Woodstock pair Dave Ashton, who was 17th in 33.15, and Bryan Vaughan, 18th in 33.21.
