Witney Roadrunners' junior Claire Triggs stole the show for Oxfordshire by picking up three medals at the Southern Region Sportshall Athletics Championships in Portsmouth.

Triggs, competing in the under 13 age group, collected gold medals in the four-lap individual race and the eight-lap relay with teammate Tara Kafke, and a bronze in the standing long jump.

Kafke also won a silver medal in the individual six-lap race.

The under 13 boys' section saw one of the closest races of the afternoon, with the two-lap sprint relay team of Jonathan Bean, Alex Devonald, David Banks and Ieaun Robinson snatching the gold in the final event of the day, narrowly beating the Isle of Wight.

Devonald also won individual silver in the two-lap sprint, while Matthew Sissons and Stephen Mitchell grabbed a silver each when they dead-heated in the six-lap race.

Despite tough opposition, the county team finished second in the U13 girls, U15 girls and U15 boys' sections, and grabbed fourth place in the U13 boys' section.

A strong Isle of Wight team, however, dominated the proceedings, winning all the age categories' team prizes.

Oxfordshire's athletes were rewarded for their efforts by being invited to attend a weekend regional training camp, funded by Sport England, later in the year.
