Thame United 3, Oxford City 0

Jefferson Louis notched his fourth goal in three games as Thame United overcame a disappointing Oxford City in last night's Ryman League Division 1 derby.

Louis, who linked well with strike partner Mark West, proved a handful throughout an entertaining game, while at the back, Thame captain Martin Brown was outstanding.

City weren't helped by the absence of key defender Lewis Craker, who was serving a one-match suspension, though they let frustration get the better of them, with Steve Arkins, Paul Woodhouse, Danny Wise and Shaun Wimble all booked.

Thame's Nando Perna volleyed over the bar after being set up by Louis just minutes into a hard-fought clash, while for City, Simon Vickers should have done better with a header from Craig Farley's excellent cross.

On 20 minutes, Thame could have been 1-0 up, but Mark Avery blasted West's excellent through ball over the bar.

At the other end, only a superb challenge from Andy Williams denied Arkins a goal after 23 minutes.

That proved to be the turning point, with Thame stepping up a gear.

And it was no surprise two minutes later when the home side, who showed far more imagination in attack, took the lead.

An innocuous cross into the City area was handled by Shaun Wimble and Perna put away the penalty.

Justin Lee had the chance to make it 2-0, but blasted a 25-yarder straight at Nelson as Thame piled men forward.

On 39 minutes, the powerful Louis showed his quality when he latched on to West's clever pass 40 yards out and held off defender Andy Smith's challenge before firing home an unstoppable shot.

Avery went close to netting No 3 as Thame finished the half in almost total control.

After the break, Thame kept up the pressure and on 59 minutes it was all over for a disappointing City side, West finishing well after Louis headed back Tony Joyce's perfect cross.

Seconds later, Louis thought he had scored his second and Thame's fourth when he finished well from Avery's excellent cross, only for the frontman to be flagged offside.

City threw on three substitutes on 65 minutes, but it made little difference as Thame cruised home, although Alan Foster did well to keep out Chris Fontaine's last-minute 25-yarder.
