A man has been jailed for almost three years for possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply, following a raid on an Oxford home.

Richard Lumsden, who is married to a youth worker for Islington Borough Council, was arrested after police raided an address in Falcon Close, Greater Leys, on September 7 last year.

Lumsden, 28, one of four people at the address, had 21 wraps of crack cocaine worth a total of £525 in a jeans pocket, said John Simmons, prosecuting.

He also had £330 in cash on him, which he claimed was to pay council tax.

Terry Woods, defending, said Lumsden was in Oxford to pick up a log book from someone for a car he was buying. He said Lumsden sold drugs to fund his own habit rather than to make a profit.

Lumsden came to England from Jamaica in 1996 and married his wife Jane.

Mr Woods said: "She had suspicions her husband had some involvement with drugs, though never inside the home they shared with four children."

Lumsden, of Offord Road, Islington, north London, admitted possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and possession of a small amount of cannabis.

Judge Anthony King jailed him to two years and nine months for possession of class A drugs with intent to supply, and one day for possession of cannabis.

The judge said if it had been established Lumsden was acting as a drugs courier from London, his sentence would have been doubled.
