Thousands of leaflets warning about bogus callers have been distributed throughout Oxfordshire in a bid to reduce distraction burglaries.

The 84,000 leaflets have been distributed as part of Operation Resolve.

Distraction burglars and bogus callers prey on elderly and vulnerable people, often conning their way into a home by claiming to be meter readers or water board employees.

Police believe the leaflets could help reduce the number of these burglaries.

The leaflets can be fixed to front doors or windows so they are visible to callers, and include tips about keeping bogus callers out.

Crime reduction officer Pc Keith Raw said: "If you do not know the person at the door, do not let them in. Call the police."

Copies of the leaflets are available from Pc Raw on 01865 335172.
