Oxford and District League Division 1 title contenders Crown House A went down to a surprise 7-3 defeat against Vikings A.

An injury to Crown's Andrew Packford did not help matters, but Vikings still had to produce the goods, and both Tommy Filmer and Peter Dasher displayed some fine attacking play to record maximums.

Meanwhile, Crown's rivals, Kidlington Forum B, secured maximum points with an 8-2 victory over Morris Motors B. Karl Bushell, who is once again the leading player in Division 1 even though he missed the opening games of the season, did the main damage.

In Division 2, Kidlington Forum C beat Morris Motors C 6-4 as Oxfordshire junior Sam Harrison took all his singles, including a notable victory over the defensive Eamonn Deeley.

The more experienced David Baskerville also won his singles to secure the victory.

Crown House C suffered their first Division 3 defeat of the season against the young Bicester C team, going down 6-4.

Oxford City junior Jordan Weaver played some of his best table tennis this season, winning all his singles and then the doubles with Sam Dalloway.

Second-placed Nielsen A recorded a crushing 9-1 victory over Holton A, with Brian Dobson saving Holton from a whitewash.

In Division 4, Bicester D saw off Nielsen B 8-2, Anthony Weaver and Wendy Chapple winning all their singles for the Bicester team.

Oxfordshire get off the mark

Oxfordshire got off the mark in Division 2D of the Inter-County Championships with a 7-3 win over Isle of Wight at the Forum Youth Centre in Kidlington.

Mark Newns won both of his singles in fine style, and was well supported by two wins each from Tamar Seymour and Jackie Burgess against a weakened ladies team.

Andrew Flint won one of his singles to wrap up an emphatic victory for the Oxon squad.

The Isle of Wight were without England No 1 Carl Prean, but his replacement, Roger Hookey, remained unbeaten.

Oxon's final three matches will all be played in Chippenham on Saturday, March 9.
