Eighty workers were evacuated from a Witney factory when a machine leaked potentially deadly chlorine gas.
Firefighters were at the scene within minutes and have praised the firm's safety procedures.
The incident occurred at about 2.30pm on Tuesday at GSM on the town's Station Lane industrial estate.
Chlorine fumes had begun to leak from a machine used to process aluminium and stainless steel plates for the car industry.
John Davis, the company's fire and safety co-ordinator, said: "We had to evacuate the premises immediately because of the potential danger."
More than 20 firefighters from Witney, Oxford and Eynsham went to the scene, along with special appliances for dealing with chemical leaks.
Steve Fletcher, Witney fire chief, said: "We were impressed with the firm's handling of the incident. It made our job easier."
