FORMER Witney Town striker Carl Henry was the hero, as his 'golden goal' clinched the Sam Waters Cup for Blackbird Sunday against Six Bells before a sizeable, well-behaved crowd at Court Place Farm.

It was his introduction, along with fellow substitute Chris Fontaine in the closing stages of normal time, that injected life into a disappointing game, which was played on a dry, bumpy surface making it difficult to play flowing football.

The double change followed the dismissal of Six Bells' Lee Jones for a second bookable offence. With both defences on top there were very few chances and neither goalkeeper was greatly troubled as the game finished 0-0 to force extra time.

Despite the sending-off, Six Bells kept themselves in the game, with some excellent defending, while they looked dangerous on the break.

However, it was Blackbirds who took the title as Bells failed to clear the ball into the area and Henry pounced to force force the ball home. Six Bells lost in the final for the second successive year.
