A taxi driver convicted of serious driving offences has had his operating licence suspended after giving misleading information to the Vale of White Horse District Council.

Andrew Welch, of Halse Water, Cow Lane, Didcot, appealed against the council's decision at Oxford Magistrates' Court but his case was rejected.

The council suspended the licence in October after it was discovered that the information Mr Welch had given about a previous conviction for driving without insurance was incorrect, as it had not been overturned on appeal. The court heard Mr Welch had a number of other convictions for serious driving offences in the past six years.

The council decided that he was not "a fit and proper" person to hold a licence, and the magistrates agreed.

The licence will now be automatically revoked, but this does not stop Mr Welch from re-applying.
