Five musicians will be pitting their skills against each other during the final of the first Oxfordshire Young Soloists competition.

The event has been organised by Oxford Orchestra da Camera and Oxfordshire County Music Service.

Each of the five will perform at Oxford School, Glanville Road, east Oxford, on Sunday. Two winners will then be selected to play in a gala concert with the professional orchestra.

Finalists in the under 25 category are violinist Lowri Porter, from Yarnton, who is studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and clarinettist Stuart Smith, a former pupil of Woodstock's Marlborough School who attends Trinity College of Music.

The under 19 finalists are pianist Diane Hiley, who attends King Alfred School, Wantage, cellist Cecily Smith, of Headington School, Oxford, and classical guitar player Jonathan Wiseman, a pupil at Gosford Hill School, Kidlington.

The gala concert takes place at Oxford Town Hall on Thursday at 7.30pm. Call 01865 305305 for tickets.
