Oxford Bus Company has launched a new service, called the Airline, running to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

From 6am today six new vehicles, which cost a total of £1.2m, went into service on the route, departing from Gloucester Green bus station.

Phil Clark, commercial manager for Oxford Bus Company, said: "For the first time, all the coaches have been fitted with toilets and spacious washrooms. We feel this is a major step forward for coach passengers from Oxford, and we will be providing an ideal service for holidaymakers and business travellers." Mr Clark, who helped launch the new service at the Kassam Stadium last night, added: "Normally on these coaches there are 53 seats, but we have limited the seating to 46 per coach, which will provide extra leg room for passengers."

During the day, the service runs hourly to Gatwick, and every half an hour to Heathrow, seven days a week. The service also runs every two hours to Heathrow during the night, and then on to Gatwick.

The coaches come in a distinctive new blue and yellow colour scheme. Previously, the service was known as the Oxford Express.
