Soldiers from Dalton Barracks in Abingdon received medals after their return from a six-month tour of duty in Northern Ireland.

Eighty members of 4 Transport Squadron of 4 General Support Regiment were based in Belfast, providing transport for units on operations.

The squadron supported police during the riots at the Holy Cross School in Belfast.

At a ceremony at the barracks, on April 11, Cpl Alan McInnes, Staff Sgt Kevin Carpenter and Sgt David Palmer received medals for 15 years' loyal service and exemplary conduct.

Other medals for long service and good conduct were also presented.

A parade of more than 400 soldiers was reviewed by the Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics at Land Command, Brig Chris Steirn.

The Royal Logistic Corps staff band played during the ceremony.

Seven soldiers from the regiment are taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday, April 14, to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
