Motorbike fan and police Inspector Ian Edwards will often ride his own Suzuki to work at Bicester police station.
Insp Edwards, 42, has taken over from Insp Carole Haveron as the officer in charge of Bicester police at the Queen's Avenue station.
"I love motorcycling and any outdoor activity," said Insp Edwards, who moved to Bicester from Chipping Norton, where he was in charge for about a year.
He added: "I am looking forward to different challenges as Bicester is more urban than Chipping Norton and is a growing town."
Insp Edwards, who is married and has one daughter, has been a detective sergeant with the CID at Banbury.
He worked with the family protection unit at Milton Keynes from 1997 until 11 months ago after being promoted to inspector at Chipping Norton.
Insp Haveron has been promoted to chief inspector and will be in charge of the Thames Valley Police occupational health, welfare and sickness unit based in Kidlington.
