Supermarket staff across Oxfordshire is helping recruit women to raise money to fight cancer.

A team of Tesco workers will give a boost to this year's Oxford Race for Life, in University Parks, which is one of 100 5km runs for women -- organised by Cancer Research UK -- that are taking place throughout the country.

The charity is aiming to raise £12m, and Tesco, which has stores in Bicester, Cowley, Oxford, Didcot, Abingdon, and Kidlington, has agreed to sponsor the events.

The supermarket giant has appointed staff as Race for Life ambassadors.

Each ambassador is urging colleagues and customers at Tesco stores to take part in the fundraising run on Sunday, June 23.

A spokesman for Tesco, Fiona Mason, said: "We hope to have 10,000 staff taking part in the events. We are also giving an extra 20 per cent, on top of all money raised by our staff.

"The fight against cancer is one race that we must win."

Last year, 2,511 women took part in the Oxford Race for Life.
