Thame produced a much-improved second-half performance to earn a share of the Ryman League Division 1 points with a 1-1 draw at Yeading on Saturday.

The home side had dominated the opening exchanges and should have had more than a one-goal advantage at the break to show for their efforts.

Yeading took the lead in the 12th minute, when Mat Miller escaped the attention of the Thame defence before firing home a low shot inside the far post for his 25th league goal of the season.

Yeading almost increased their lead in the 21st minute, when a Matt Edwards header beat Alan Foster as he advanced. Luckily for Thame, the ball drifted wide of the gaping goal.

Thame were finding life difficult playing into a strong wind but did create chances of their own, Wayne Cort going close and Jefferson Louis shaving the bar with a terrific drive from outside the box.

The second half saw United take the initiative and they were on level terms in the 56th minute.

Eighteen-year-old substitute Tommy Belic, making his Ryman debut after impressing in the youth team, swung over a pin-point corner and Skipper Martin Brown beat keeper Simon Chang to glance his header home.

Both sides sensed they could win the game and were committed to attack Foster had to be alert to stop an Edwards shot, before Belic went close for Thame, shooting just wide.

The game finished honours even, but both sides will feel they could have taken all three points.
