Oxford United will take on local rivals Oxford City and Thame United in pre-season games as they build up to the Nationwide League season on August 10, writes JON MURRAY.

The U's, who have already arranged glamorous pre-season warm-ups at The Kassam Stadium against Leicester City and Southampton on July 28 and August 2 respectively, will take on Oxford City at their Court Place Farm ground on Saturday, July 13, and Thame at Windmill Stadium on Monday, July 15.

This will be followed by a game at Dr Martens League Western Division club Moor Green in Birmingham on Saturday, July 20.

United boss Ian Atkins has been in discussions about another friendly at Kettering, who have just been crowned Dr Martens Premier Division champions, on Tuesday, July 23 - but this latest one has yet to be confirmed.

"I like a gradual build-up in strength of opposition, and this should do that," Atkins said. "The game at Moor Green should be good because their pitch is excellent, and that's an important consideration during pre-season."
