Police are warning moped and scooter owners to step up security after a spate of thefts and reckless driving in Bicester.

Complaints about stolen bikes are averaging three a week. Offenders are riding the machines dangerously around the town.

WPC Annie Wadley, of Bicester police station, said: "Somebody's going to get badly hurt. Either the person who steals one, or an unfortunate passer-by who gets in the way.

"The machines are then abandoned -- inevitably damaged."

Police advise people to lock cycles in garages if possible.
