A series of musical and cultural events takes place in Wantage over the coming week as part of the town's summer festival.

Dave Moorwood and Friends are staging a performance called Jazz on a Midsummer Day, at Lains Barn, on Saturday from 11am to 6pm.

The same day, soprano Philippa Green will perform songs at Wantage Parish Church at 3pm, a baroque chamber orchestra will perform at Challow Park Recital Hall at 7.30pm, and local musicians will play a charity concert at St John Vinnay Church, in Charlton Road, at 7.30pm.

Pupils from primary and secondary schools will exhibit pieces from their Jubilee art competition at the Vale and Downland Museum, Church Street, from Monday until Sunday, July 14. A guided walk along the Wilts & Berks Canal will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, from West Challow road bridge. Call 01865 820140 for further details of the route.

On the same day, Wantage Art Group holds a colour painting exhibition at the Civic Hall, from 7.30pm.

Elsewhere, the Domino Players will perform A Midsummer Night's Dream, at Lains Barn, at 7.30pm, and Icknield Way Morris Men will be running a morris dancing workshop at The Abingdon Arms pub, in Grove Street, from 8pm.
