A warehouse worker from Didcot is celebrating after winning almost £105,000 at bingo.

But Andy Palmer, 51, said it would not be enough for him to give up his job at Booker food distribution centre on the town's Southmead Industrial Park.

As reported in the Oxford Mail yesterday, Mr Palmer, of Ladygrove, called a full house in the National Game at the town's New Coronet Bingo Club, and shared a top prize of £209,886 with a winner from Bristol.

Mr Palmer said he did not usually regard himself as lucky.

He has been playing regularly for 16 years, and has won prizes of £250, £200 and £100.

He holds a driving licence but does not own a car, and usually cycles to work for the night shift after playing bingo.

After his big win, Mr Palmer plans to buy a motorbike to get to work, share part of his winnings with two good friends and put most of it towards his pension. When he receives the cheque for £104,943 he is not planning a big celebration.

He added: "I don't drink much." A former stable jockey, Mr Palmer relaxes by going racing, gardening -- and accompanying his landlady and her mother to bingo.

John Carpenter, who owns the New Coronet with his mother Norma said: "A big cheer went up in the club when Andy won the National Game. It's the largest ever win by one of our members."

Bingo players from more than 600 clubs across the UK take part in the National Game.

Many of the larger clubs taking part have memberships of more than 250,000, while the New Coronet has 26,500 members.

Mr Carpenter said: "Over the years, we have had about ten big winners as well as regional winners. Between them they've picked up more than £1m."
