The Oxford Canal Festival is set to make a splash with a day of waterside entertainment and boat trips.

Colourful boats on display at the 1999 Canal Festival The Oxford Mail-sponsored event celebrates the history and culture of canal life, from boat-building and decorating to canal wildlife, with heritage exhibitions, guided walks and wildlife information on offer.

Arts, dance, crafts, gifts and books will be among the attractions in the main marquee, while a music arena will showcase local bands.

Decorated boats, activities and entertainments will stretch along the canal from Hythe Bridge to Aristotle Lane.

The Oxford Canal waterski display team will give a demonstration and offer boat trips.

The event is mainly organised by the canal community and supported by British Waterways and the city council.

It takes place on Sunday, June 23, from noon until 6pm at Aristotle Lane Recreation Ground.

Parking will be limited so visitors are advised to use public transport, cycle or walk to the event.
